Eonon head unit

So I decided to buy one of these Eonon GE-01 head units that are all over Ebay for the 'lude.

I wanted FM/AM radio, DAB, CD, and then I thought the addition of bluetooth car kit, USB interface and GPS all integrated would be quite interesting, and for about £170 I thought, worth a punt. I could soon resell it back on Ebay if it was a POS.

The nearest brand-name one I could see was a Pioneer, for about 800 quid.

Well today I installed it - which went well. I had to modify the centre console a bit to house the double-DIN sleeve, and I ran a few wires into the boot for a sub-amp and reversing camera (oh, did I say, it comes with a reversing camera too!).

And do you know what? I'm pleasantly surprised! The touch screen works great, sound quality (into Focal door speakers and tweeters and just a little touch of sub in the back from a Clarion integrated sub-bass unit) is actually really good.

The GPS works just fine, radio is good, bluetooth integrates well with my iPhone and even plays the audio from the phone.

There's a big bunch of phono connectors sticking out the back for various ins, outs, video ins and outs, etc and a few extra wires for illumination sense, power amp control, rev cam switching etc, plus if the car had steering wheel radio buttons it has wires for that, and you can 'teach' the unit what each input is for.

It even has an SD card slot if you wanna keep some tunes in that!

All in all, a good unit!

@alinton how are you getting on with it? Still like it?

This is one I'm considering, along with Xtrons headunits running Android. I'm just concerned that the sat nav might not be too good and then I'd be stuck with it as I wouldn't be able to install an alternative like I could on a unit running Android.

Hi, getting on fine with it, it's a very good unit! The sat nav works just fine!

There are a few little niggles but nothing serious. The Bluetooth car phone app works well too.

i too would like to know about the satnav updating.

but my main question is to do with the usb functionality.
most usb headunits have a limit on how many files/folders it can read, usually 999 tracks. i only want to spend out on a replacement headunit if there isnt a limit.

its also hard to find this information before buying! hoping you could tell me or maybe test it for me if you dont know!

if all sounds good i will be getting one for my mondeo and transferring the kenwood with no usb limit to the lude!

So true. I've been there too.
