Well, stole might be a bit strong but recently picked up a lovely 5th gen Montegi 2.2 Lude and been wondering why the sound system sounded like it was from the 60s considering ithad a pretty nice Sony head unit... Investigated it today and someone has totally BOTCHED 4 inch cones into the doors... theyve gone to town with the screws making them fit. realy was a sorry sight. Gutted.
SOOOO anyway it means I have to pick some new speakers up and hopefully have a nice system again - Any suggestions to what size isthe best? From what I can tell I would need 6"?!... From what i have heard about 6x9 the oval shape doesnt do any wonders for the sound and it is better to stick with circular ones?
anyone suggestions would be great! looking for sound / vs affordability. Even if someone has some spares layign around they wanna sell?!!
Cheers, Will

Whats your budget? 6" will fit. 6.5" will fit if you cut out some of the plastic behind the grill and add a spacer.

I wouldn't fit expensive speakers into a Montego.

Who knows. Depends on the spacers dimensions, speakers dimensions and the doors.
But best way is to make you own spacers. MDF from B&Q and a jigsaw.

Ok I botched some 6” FLI speakers in which were meant to have the best frequency response and RMS, but they are bloody quiet!... I'm not really that with it when it comes to this kinda thing but is there something I may have missed? Could my head unit just be poo?
Rear speakers are loud and fine, but the fronts just get drowned out
Think I may have to swap the head unit out and try something else.

Well they are FLI for a start

they wont give the best frquency responce down in the doors. the rears are high up and firing at the glass reflecting waves into the car. The fronts are reflecting waves into your legs.
In all seriousness how are they installed? Pics? The front waves need to be completely sealed from the back waves so you need to seal the doors with sound deadening. Headunit will pump out 20Wrms x4 max.

silly question but have you played with the fade on your head unit? i had same problem but thank you boot sale

found a 10" 1000watt Focal sub in box for £15

and 2 weeks ago found a guy with 4x 5.25" Focal A30 door speakers for £20 the lot

(cheap as he had put speakers on top of each other and pushed two of the cones in, shoved a pp3 9v across terminals and popped the cones back out

) so Focal all round for me now but as said +2 forward fade on headuint and all good
