Subs no worky

Post by nick_s » Sun Aug 03, 2014 3:18 pm

Afternoon all.

In the wifes Vectra, I have an MTX RT501 and 2 JL subs. The whole shebang stopped working a few days ago. Thinking she'd blown the speakers, I've switched out to a known working amplified enclosure, no joy.

Headunit still plays audio from all other speakers, so is it possible that the RCA outputs alone are buggered? The amps power up so I can only assume the live/ground/remote setup is fine.

Can you feed it another line level input to see if it works? Also, some stereo's let you disable the RCA out in software on the HU - could be as simple as that?

I've tried the 2nd RCA output and nada, but then read up that Pioneer HU's are prone to killing RCA outputs as the diddy fuse may as well be made of paper. This all came after the speaker wire came out, I dare say it has buggered the RCA's based on findings and other peoples experience :(

Ahh well, at least I know the amp is sound (it has a self test effectively by the LED status) and the subs themselves seem functional (based on multimeter testing) :)

I've rescued the setup from the Vectra and stuck in her diddy old 10" Edge amplified enclosure so as to keep the wiring intact...will find a way of fitting the MTX and JL's in the lude lol :D

Yep. Pioneer headunits like to ground these main fuses through RCA outputs and this damaged the main RCA chipboard.
Try another stereo or another RCA output of your headunit has one.
