Fitting double DIN car stereo.

OK, to most people this is probably a really silly question...

Currently I have a single DIN JVC car stereo fitted and shortly I'll be getting a double DIN car stereo. Am I right in thinking that I'll need to buy a double DIN cage in order to fit the larger stereo in my 5G Prelude?

I would've thought so. Will the new stereo not just come with one then?

No.

Just remove the trim and you will get the OEM chassis that din cages fit into. There will be 4 screws on each side and these just bolt into the new double din stereo directly. No aftermarket cage required. m6 bolts IIRC.

My single din is bolted directly in the same way but just used 2 of the bolts either side instead of 4.

You have to remove it to understand it.

Wonderful. I did wonder. I've had my current stereo in and out a few times and from memory I thought there was already provision for a double DIN there.

Thanks.

But I think I'll need to get one of those fascia / surround thingies that goes around the edge. I get the impression they're universal.

Just pound it until something happens and/or fall asleep after the sneezing feeling.

My Sony double din stereo bolted in as Ratty suggested and the stereo came with surround that would have just clipped into the stereo. However the surround was too chunky to fit, so I've had a profile cut out (That I'm still yet to fit). I'd suggest trying the surround your stereo comes with before purchasing an after market one though.

I bought this Pioneer last year and it fits without a cage in my 5th gen, but the supplied surround is too wide to fit on it, so at the moment it is in the car with no surround, but doesn't look too bad.
