preface jdm bb1 page 3 wiring help

Post by newkid » Thu Apr 23, 2015 7:48 pm

Anyone have a preface jdm bb1 with a dimmer switch wired in? if so were is the plug located?

If it turns out there isn;t an option for a dimmer does anyone know were to wire one into, dbo's preface has the el dial swap but they stay on full brightness when lights on and lets just say the glare is annoying, the heater controls dim as normal but id much prefer being able to dim the clocks/temp and fuel etc as well.

There are 2 things here causing confusion, dimmer display is for making the gauges less bright when the light are on, and brightness control, which is controlled by a dial switch.

Mine is a pre facelift BB1, it has no brightness control dial, and the wiring is not present, if you want to retro fit, then its fairly involved task.

A few of the outputs from the dash gauges go to ground on the cars without it, you'll have to check the wiring diagrams for these, you'll have to rewire these to the dimmer control unit, then fit a unit, before finally wiring between the unit and the switch.

They've not been fitted correctly, check the wiring diagrams for which input needs to come from the dimmer unit (not brightness control), which switch the lights from a low to high feed.

I've retro fitted EL's to mine and they go dimmer when the lights are on, though I made my own loom as I went from pre face auto JDM to EL Manual UK.
