So i swapped in my new dash and was chuffed to see all the lights on for the first time but as suspected the Cel was on hence the last one been smashed by a previous owner who couldn't have been bothered to sort it out.

All good i say and go to get the code but nope it doesn't flash when shorted just stays on.

When the service plug is put back in its socket and i turn the key it will very briefly go to go out then stays on but when paper clipped it doesn't flicker, not sure if that is any use

I've tried a dozen times and no luck.

I'm sure its the right 2 pin clip, only other Blue is a 3 pin :?:

Yes, that's the right connector. The other 3 pin plug is the data link connector.

The service connectors are very sensitive to having a good connection. Unless it's spot-on, it won't work. Have you tried going both sides of the pin in the plug (if that makes sense? :? ) what I mean is, you can push the wire in the holes in the plug and go down either side of the electrical connector inside. One side you don't get a good contact on.

The photo makes it look like the coating on one end of the paper clip may be preventing good contact.

Thanks for the tips guys, the clip made good contact and was deeper than you can see baring the metal.
I joined both wires earlier incase there was a break along the plug for checking sake and it was still the same.
Something doesn't seem right about it whether it's a break further back or some bodge job for audio install gone wrong which there is a bit of a mess behind the console with splitters and added fuses but to the naked eye it seems sound.

I took a brief snip of it's quick flash earlier which is all it does and once only..
