Mk6 Accord ignition locks. Won't start.

My father in law has a mk6 Accord ex. The ignition barrels and setup is almost identical to the ludes.

The other day the barrel locked completely. It wouldnt turn past position 2 and jams and no amount of force on the wheel unlocks it. The wheel can turn partially.

I basically had to put all my weight turning the wheel right and wiggle the locks for 10 mins and it eventually came free.

Since then it wss fine however this weekend it's doing it again but not as bad.

It just locks.

It's not wheel lock but more that the key simple won't turn to the engine start. Pure force on the key won't work.

Any one had any experience of this?

Yes, in my lude.. The little barrel inserts had worn so the key would not push them out as intended. I stripped the barrel down and fitted replacement inserts.

Are the inserts unique or can they be hondered.

The combination of them is unique for the key but they are each numbered (1-10) so you can get replacements.

This sort of thing..... http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showt ... hp?t=62486

Too much work tbh. Might just get another barrel and key.

The work is removing the barrel. Once you've done that you could probably identify the offending insert and just remove it.
