Oh dear just killed an s type

Post by 106pete » Thu May 10, 2012 7:50 am

3 days before japfest we thought it would be a good idea to finish of wiring a tein Edfc but we never even got that far.

There was a fog light switch laying in the foot well that we first decided to tidy up and after a quick route around we found a couple earths and some wires coming directly from the fuse box, after connecting up the switch wrongly we blew the fuse to the dash which was quickly fixed and had a couple more attempts to get the right and finally the switch illuminated as it should.

I don't know why but my friend tryed to start the car but it just turned over and would not start! A quick check found no spark! Assuming the partially fitted alarm system had immobilised this I proceded to remove it all. There were open wires and a half connected relay, the only place it was spliced in to the loom was the 2 large wires coming from the ignition barrel.

An easy job to remove it and now nothing is connected but it still won't start. Every fuse has been tested and I swapped the main relay for one on my 4g.

ATM I'm considering trying a 4g coil but will it fit or my other concern is the factory immobiliser?
My friend has only ever had a basic key for this car, no remote fob and no chip installed but it worked fine, I assume it should have both as standard?

Any idvice at this point would be very greatful. We're both working till 3.45 and can't wait to get back n try sorting it before having to call a auto electrician :-(

Thanks pete

No not really, only found a odd earth wire doin nothing and now using it for the fog light, we also tryed unplugging everything and returning all to standard.

Here's a pic of someone else's fuse panel

We have a live coming from the unused no 5 and the same place as there orange wire, one was loose doin nothing and other was on the fog light, I may have shorted them hence the dash light fuse blowing. But that all sorted again now.

It sounds like the 5th gen imob won't even crank the engine over?

So sounds like were not battling the imob then?

It was a Clifford but quite a old one and quite badly installed so the cars now back to standard on that side of thing.

Well if that's not a problem can anyone tell me how to tell if the Distributer is getting power?

I'm guessing my 4g coil+dizzy won't fit?
