Headlight Restoration

Post by Jackson Bondy » Sun Apr 08, 2018 2:59 pm

Hi all,

I purchased some headlights last year second hand, I believe they were originally owned by a member on here who took good care of them. I've had them stashed away for the last year and finally gotten round to fitting them. Unfortunately it seems the person I purchased them from took it upon themself to open the headlights, breaking a lot of the tabs meaning the headlights no longer sealed properly and to get round this they have decided to put some silica gel in and then used some kind of silicone to glue the headlights back together.
I wanted to open them up and try and clean them up but they're set solid so I'm thinking of sending them off to have them opened, cleaned up and repaired as best as possible. Does anyone know of any companies that do this and how much it'd cost?
I've attached some pictures below showing the state of them.

I cleaned mine without opening them up. I shot loads of water inside with a hosepipe, then half filled with water and washing up liquid, shook them around like crazy, repeated several times and then finally rinsed them out with the hosepipe. They came up really well.

Interesting, thanks for the link I hadn't seen that that's actually really useful! The problem I'm having mainly is actually getting them apart, I don't think it's the original sealant and so I don't think heating it up is going to make it any easier to shift.

Might give that a go and see how I get on, cheers for the tip!
