Automatic Speedo wrong

Post by c_doughty1 » Tue Jul 03, 2018 11:34 am

Ok so driving in a 4th gen auto 2.2 the Speedo sometimes works but the mph reading is way off. Say I'm doing roughly 30mph it will think I'm doing 50 to 55 mph. Or it won't work at all and the needle goes all the way to the right hand side. The car is an import and some mph clocks have been installed but I think by someone that didn't know how to do it correctly. Advice anyone please.

I had the same issue and it was the converter. I removed it, re-soldered the wires back and installed a UKDM speedometer.

I don't know what either of these are or what they look like?

After market convertor boxes are usually fitted behind the clocks or at the VSS in the engine bay. It'll be a little black box with about 5 coloured wires coming from it.

If it has EL dials it may not be behind the speedo, found the one on my BB4 the other day lurking behind the ashtray.

If its proper mph clocks there won't be a converter.
