New DAB Double Din Stereo Cable Queries

Post by toadster » Sat Dec 29, 2018 11:59 pm

Hi Peops :D
I got a new DAB and DVD double din head unit for Christmas this year 8)
I currently have a non dab double din stereo in My Lude that I fitted Myself a few years ago.
Was easy plug and play iso connection and Ariel connection.
The new unit however has a few extra connections and I was hoping You guy's may be able to advise
It has a mute wire that is NC.
System remote control that is NC.
Reverse gear signal input that is NC.
Lastly a clamp connector for Parking brake.
As I'm only using standard speaker set up and don't have or need rear camera or remote control I'm guessing I don't need to do anything with these connections ?
Also am I correct that I must connect the parking brake connection or the DVD playing function will not work ?
Obviously it's a safety feature.
Cheers for any feedback guy's
Cheers ;)

Correct that you won't need the mute, remote or reverse cables.
Don't know about the parking brake connector - the manual with the stereo should tell you it will inhibit the DVD function or not (good thought to check btw!). If not... trial and error obviously the way to go!

Hi. The proper way to connect the parking brake cable (long lime green one I think on Pioneer wiring plugs) is to connect it to the parking brake switch. However, most people will simply connect this to the black ground wire and this does the trick. This definitely works on all the Pioneer double din units I've gone through :-) That said, for safety reasons, I'd obviously recommend you connect the clamp to the parking brake switch.

@wurlycorner is correct that as you've described you don't need Mute, Reverse or System Remote Control (you'd use system remote control to connect to an external amp, to turn on the amp when the stereo turns on, or possibly to an electric antenna, to raise the antenna when stereo turns on)

Lo :D
Thanks for your replies guys much appreciated.
It is a Pioneer AVH-A3100DAB head unit.
Would the centre console have to be removed to get to handbrake switch :?:
Cheers again guys ;)

Dunno about the 5G, but on my 4G, you would need to remove center console (both pieces) to get to the handbrake switch.

Lo again guy's :D
One last question for you.
Do you normally disconnect the battery when You have replaced a stereo ?
I didn't when I fitted My current double din stereo but it says to in the manual.
Cheers all

For safety reasons you should disconnect battery when working on stereo.

If it's plug and play (you're not cutting/splicing live wires) then don't worry about it.

The handbrake connection Just ground it on the unit itself.
This means you can use the sat Nav adjust fiction whilst moving and watch videos whilst driving. I have had pieinear and alpine and always grounded this connection. Makes life easier.
Also ground it in oem cars so oem setups have video function.
