personally its always worth making the effort to make the fronts better than they were. If you actually want some kick in the front you need at least 6inch speakers., 6.5 better. 5.25 can't physically reproduce the kick drum, and thats what you want flapping your legs.
6th gen Prelude please Mr Honda. RWD 2.4 turbo lude.

I am not looking for anything amazing, just something, the fronts in mine are so quiet compared to the rears. So I think I will go for the 5.25 inch, thanks for the advice all

Do you have the acoustic feedback system in yours?

I don't think so Ratty. In the rear there are some Clarion speakers. They look like 6x9's, the model number is SRT6930. They were in the car at import. The thing is, I quite like them, the bass they produce is pretty good, they sound good, the only problem is they totally overpower the front speakers. It also looks like they fit with no modifications.

The rears are 6x9 as standard. The acoustic feedback system was excellent. Rear speaker were wired in series and only played low band passed frequencys so to not drag the sound stage back with higher frequencies. The stock speakers has little mics on them and gave feedback to adjust bass against road noise etc.

Many people put aftermarket 6x9 in the rear and bypass the feedback and think it's an improvement but in reality they are getting the upper frequency of audio back mistaking it for sounding better and everything gets dragged to the rear of the car.
Hence exactly what's going on with your car. Previous owner me think.

Sound stage should come from the front.

I have the lpf in the rear of my car it looks like a little coil in a plastic box. As Ratty has already rightly said the sound stage should come from the front and bypassing the filter in the rear only messes this up. I didn't know the way these cars were set up until I replaced the rear speaker's with some full range 6x9s and found there to be no high frequency coming from them I then quickly learnt what was going on when I poked around. I can't tell if my car was fitted with the acoustic feedback system because it had an aftermarket Pioneer Headunit fitted circa 2002.

I presumed the lpf was just a standard item on the 5th Gen but I could be wrong. Now the front speakers are amped up and the rears are turned down on the headunit slightly you can hardly hear them. If you're replacing the door speaker's definitely consider using an amp to power them because it totally transformed the sound quality for me. I ran it for a few weeks without the amp at the front and powered all the speaker's from the headunit which sounded ok but nothing compared to how it sounds now.

My system comprises of a 10" subwoofer with monoblock amp. 5.25" door components connected to a 70w rms amp. 6x9 full range rear speakers connected to the headunit. It sounds fantastic apart from the rattling that comes from the rear parcel shelf area which is my next task...

That's the rear window demister. Acoustic feedback amp/processor is a longish rectangular box in the centre of the shelf.
