This was my issue 6 years ago. The last page may answer your problem. Only a JDM 5th gen alt works on my JDM Type S. I tried all other alternators for prelude and all didn't work.

Ah thank you! Maybe this is the issue I have with mine. It has a JDM alternator but finding a UKDM one is difficult. I put one from a 2.3i but that resulted the ABS, 4WS light to come on but also wouldn't charge the battery either.

Guys, the issue has now been fixed. As @RattyMcClelland confirmed by suspicion, it was down to having the wrong alternator. Like he mentioned, it has to be like for like! Also, the UKDM and JDM's have different alternators and have a different charging system. It also means they have different engine fuse box. The JDM Prelude’s have a 3 pin plug to the ELD and the UKDM’s have an inbuilt one.

The alternator code to look out for is:

UKDM = S means Sensor.
JDM = C means local charge output.

I struggled to find the correct alternator but luckily a breaker on eBay found one on his shelve and just happened to be the one I needed (what luck!).
