UKDM fog light switch compatible with aftermarket harness?

To clarify - that's In Car Entertainment - not frozen water

UKDM fog light switch compatible with aftermarket harness?

Hey guys,

As in title - I have a set of fogs with OEM lamps & an aftermarket wiring harness - would it be possible to use an OEM UK switch or would it involve a ball-ache of epic proportions? Don't want to spend £25 on a switch & then find out it's not going to work as i'd need the proper plug connectors - alternatively, anyone know of a supplier of generic fog switches which might sell something kinda original looking?

Get the UKDM fog switch and a pig tail of wiring from the harness - then you'll be able to make it work (just need to figure out the wiring - manual would help there I'd think).

does the aftermarket plug not fit with a notch filed out or something

or they completely different?

wiring might be different too, I found this going from a jdm harness to a usdm switch

Hey guys I have not a clue tbh! :oops:

Indigolemon - do you mean source an original harness & take the plugs off it? I don't have the switch so I don't even know what the connections on the back are like - unless it has a couple of easily accessible spade connectors i'd reckon it'll be a pain in the arse!

Lude-dude - i really don't know, i'll go have a nosey around preludepower & the likes & see if anyone's run intot he same problem - if the repro harness fits the original switch with only a notch filed out that would be a brucie bonus indeed!

I was thinking that if you could get a UKDM switch, with the plug in the back and few inches of wire from the loom, you could use spades/bullets/twisting and taping to get it hooked into your aftermarket loom.

Ah right - gotcha, the more i'm looking into this the more it seems everyone and their dog has issues in mixing & matching original & repro setups - what have I done?! :lol:

I don't wanna spend £25 on the switch only to find out it's useless without the pigtail from the original harness as the plugs aren't compatible - which sounds like it might be the case...

I'll end up flogging these on & buying the repros for an easy life :lol:

I've tried matching a ukdm switch with plug and a few inch's of wire to an after market wiring, now I'm not stupid when it comes to wiring diagrams and following the manual but could I get it to work , could I drokk , and gave up and used a rocker switch from halfords , works a treat. It's a shame it's not a genuine switch but I can live with it. Glows a nice green when fog lights are on.

for the sake of having a nice flush button

Paul - that's what I fear will end up happening with my setup! What are the connections like on the back of the switch, do you think an approach like ziyaan's suggesting would work or do you absolutely require the pigtail off the harness to make the connection to the back of the switch? I thought all the connections on the back of these switches were tiny recessed things & you wouldn't be able to rig up a connection manually with the usual methods? :?

basically all I can say is you'd have to use very small female push connectors cos I reckon the pins are only 3mm wide.. I can't find the wiring diagram at this time, I think I may of tried to follow a write up by Pushki but don't hold me to that...
I remember using a volt meter first to see what wires allowed a current through ( when the switch was pushed in and out) and nearly setting the switch on fire ......

obviously this is a 4th gen front switch with the pig tail beside it. there should actually be five wire's coming out of the pigtail...

this is the bottom and as you can see there's five pins.... I reckon there about 3mm wide...
