How to remove 4G ECU

Post by jjmartin349571 » Fri Aug 24, 2012 5:49 pm

Hi folks,

I want to get into my ECU, as I have VTEC in first gear and no speed limiter so I'm wondering what's going on in there chip-wise. I fancy swapping in my socketed ECU too whilst I'm at it. Anyway I don't know how to get to the ECU  apparently it's under the carpet on the passenger side?? :? Would rather find out for definite before destroying my carpet

Cheers,
Josh

the ecu is located under the carpet in the passenger foot well. remove trims and lift carpet. then you need to remove the foot plate and then expose the ecu. but you need to unbolt the ecu from the body car and then unplug the 3 harnesses atached to it.

the ecu has 2 removable covers held with 5 screw on each. the chip you need to check is circled. the original chip will read oki

Cheers guys, looks like it should be easier than the Accord then, that was a muffin as it was bolted down behind the centre console. Is there anything securing the connectors to the ECU? There was a metal plate on the Accord with a security screw, I had to saw it off in the end :?

Well got my ECU out today. I'm a bit curious as to what's going on, as my car is showing speed in mph, has first gear VTEC and no speed limiter. How has this been achieved? The ECU isn't chipped, but I'm wondering if there's a piggyback unit or something? In the below pic I can see the speed signal converter, but is the big taped on square thing meant to be there or is that something that's been added in?? :?
