Mystery Front Speaker Wiring

Post by jjmartin349571 » Sun Aug 26, 2012 4:48 pm

Hi folks,

Took my doorcard off today to check out the central locking. Saw my speakers were trashed so pulled them out too. I found someone else's wiring behind there too! I can't figure out what it's for though :? Have a look

Looks like a transformer wired in?? Anyway the two wires leading out of that have been cut and insulated, were they just for some mega powerful speakers or something?

On the subject of speakers, the 16cm ones I bought won't fit  this is the first car I've owned where I couldn't just swap the speakers straight over. What should I do? Do I need spacers or something? I'm hoping somebody can just point me to eBay and say 'buy this, screw it on, screw speakers into it'

Cheers,
Josh

This ^ Any holes in the doorcards where a tweeter may have lived?

Now you mention it there's a fibreglass repair to the doorcard under the drivers doorhandle, when it catches the light it looks circular. It's where the wires lead to as well. Shame the install isn't still there as it'd be pretty awesome :(

Any ideas as to what I can do on the speaker install front?

Remoce it all so just the positive and negative wires are left from the door loom. Go from there.

Yeah I just finished pulling it all out, don't need somebody else's wiring in there so no point leaving it.

What depth speaker rings can I use for the new speakers? They're actually the same depth as the OEM Pioneer speakers, just the magnet and cone housing is broader. I've never used speaker rings before

There's a matching repair on the other side, don't think you'd need two of those whilst you drive  :?

I would reccommend 12mm speaker rings to be a good compromised between strength and size.
