Ok, so what's this extra bit on JDM locks for?

Right hand lock, out of my JDM drivers door.
Left had lock, out of my UKDM drivers door (yes, I really know how to have a good time, taking locks out of cars just to compare them side-side)
So the eagle eyed will notice that the right hand one has an additional black plastic bit with an extra cable, on the lock/unlock lever (see close up here)
Just wondering if anyone knows WTF it's for?
It doesn't offer any resistance to moving at all.
The only difference between the 2 cars is that the JDM has keyless locking. Don't see that this is necessary for that though, cause the solenoid is in main body, as with the passenger side and I can't see that little thing exerting enough force?
Sensor so it knows whether it's locked/unlocked?

How difficult are these to get out? I need to test my driver side solenoid. Mine has the extra black bit and cables too, it looked pretty packed in there
What's keyless locking btw? Keyless as in using the button on the fob, or actually keyless as in like modern cars which work on proximity of a radio transmitter on your person?

They're not that hard to get out really.
Unbolt easily and the rods are easy to disconnect if you know the nack for each of them.
You need to unbolt and pull out the window runner on that side though, otherwise it's a nightmare/impossible to get the lock out of the door.
Yep, keyless locking being pressing a button on the key (so keyless as in you don't need to put the key in the lock barrel and turn it - not that mine works anyway lol)

Window runner is a single bolt at the bottom and then pull it down btw. It'll probably go no-where for ages and then you'll tug it in just the right way and it suddenly shoots out (oo-err...)
Refitting it is a pain for the same reasons. Faff about for ages swearing why the bloody thing won't push back up when you 'know' it's in the right place... Then it suddenly just goes.

Sounds scary

I'd be really worried of something dropping and getting stuck inside the door

I'll take a look tomorrow though and see what I can do!

Pretty sure that black bit is the built in solenoid on the drivers door look. The JDM's have the silver lock switch on the drivers door, so both door have actuators. The UKDM's don't have the switch, and rely on manual movement to lock the drivers door, so only the passenger has the little black bit.
[edit] I should point out this is a guess!

i would have thought the black bit was something to do with the IR sensor on the JDM

OR!!! thinking about it. ukdm's don't have the panic lock on the drivers door card?? maybe?

My UK has this keyless thing you're on about... as well as if I unlock it remotely and don't open to door right away it locks again after xx seconds.

Maybe this became standard on 5G.
