how do they work? can you just programme it yourself or does it an expert hand? and i see many different makes and models, any particular difference? plus, i have a spoon ecu (not the add-on chip), would it work with it or make no difference.

thank you :)

some are a knob, some are buttons. some like the vafc has it as a function etc.
to do it 'properly' you should have you vtec change over set as part of a tune. this will ensure you get the best out of both cams.

otherwise you can mess about with it and see 'how it feels' a tried and tested tuning method  ;)

If its just the controller I wouldn't bother using it. Like LLL says without the tuning its next to useless. The Spoon ECU has VTEC set to 5K but is tuned to make use of it. Lowering VTEC further more than likely wont make any more power, probably it will loose power.

^This.
I have a VAFC2 which I fitted myself and dropped the VTEC to about 4,500k, which is actually a pretty good place for a relatively standard lude.
That said, when I got Rich at PAW to set it up (eventually) the difference was noticeable. I did have a few other mods though such as adjustable cam gears, but it's really the air/fuel mix being tweaked for a little more power.

Mine will actually be up for sale for £100 as soon as I've removed it, as I have the Hondata setup these days.
Give me a shout of you'd like any more info/dibs etc.

If this is the same unit (which I think it is), it might be worth a punt as it looks like you can adjust fuel etc.. Its not just a knob.

Could be a older "version" of the VAFC?

Not a complex thing to tune. You need a wideband o2 sensor to do it properly tho.

From memory you use the o2 sensor to adjust the fuel trim to get the optimum AFR at each part fo the rev range (13:1 I think). I'm sure I remember reading that the H22 runs rich higher up and you can trim 4-5% off the fuel mix and get a few extra horses from it. Will try and find the link to it later for you.

There aren't any other things to tune with it so pretty straight forward
