ABS Code 33

Post by Hagland-BB4 » Wed Nov 30, 2022 6:12 pm

My ABS light is always permanently on so I did the paperclip bridge and the abs flashes 3 long and 3 short.
This is coming back as Solenoid LF-in
Does anyone actually know what this is.
Many thanks

ABS Code 33

The abs unit has several solenoids, one for each wheel. It probably refers to those.

See page 19-90 for the test schedule.

So, to fix, you'll be looking at getting the unit rebuilt to fix this properly. Which is a massive ball ache.

The solenoids are in the ABS modulator unit. The only test the ECU can do for a solenoid is check for continuity really. I'd whip the abs pump block out, and refresh the solder joints where the solenoids meet the main PCB (assuming its similar to other abs ecus). This is the most likely failure. Could be corrosion on the PCB or another electronic fault but generally that'd be rare, with simpler issues being more likely. No direct experience of this failure in the 3rd gen , just 4th gen 4ws ecu failures which are similar.

ABS Code 33

Just checked the manual though, p 19-60, there is no code 33 listed?

ABS Code 33

Strange, 33 would be the code you would get for FL-IN on a 5th gen and points to lack of continuity on either the modulator 10p connector or abs control unit 12p connector.

On a 4th gen if the code starts with a 3 it would point to one of the ABS pulsers, but there are only 3 possible codes for the pulsers 31, 32, and 34 which is both rear left and right which is a bit odd as surely they should have separate codes, is it a mistake in the manual?

ABS Code 33

The manual is better than some internet post.

kb/viewarticle?a=10

Your first flash on the ABS code is not part of the error reading, see page 19-59.

See page 17-36 to check if you've read the 4WS code correctly.
