4G Retractable Aerial

Post by giblet » Wed Nov 14, 2012 11:47 pm

Am I the only one who is not a fan of the retractable aerial on the 4G? Looking to replace it with one that doesn't retract, a quick google shows that people have used the bee sting type. Has anyone used something smaller at all? Alternativley can I just pull a fuse to stop it from retracting? Looking to buy a HU so I can just use my phone for music and as a result I won't need the aerial for the radio.

Mine's wired into an OEM half-mast switch that gives me the power to have it up or down.
I always leave it down because I listen to MP3s, not the radio. :P

just a thought you could switch the signal wire from the stereo to the aerial to retract it fully as and when you wanted  would be easy to do aswell!

How hard was it to wire in? Looks like I need to add on OEM half-mast switch to my shopping list

There is a wire (believe it is brown with a white stripe from memory) that will send a signal from the stereo to the aerial motor to extend it up. On my old 4th gen, I had it wired on a switch so that when I was listening to CDs or my iPod, the aerial was down, and then when I wanted radio, I flicked the switch and the aerial went up :D

Just cut into the wire, fit a 2 way switch in there, so that one way the aerial won't go up as the signal from the radio is interrupted, and the other way it works as per normal.

As Crazy says, any switch would do. I wanted OEM so that it didn't look out of place.

I put blue LEDs in them. I've now changed the fog switch to a red LED. :ugeek:

I just pulled the side panel in the boot back, and unplugged the connection to the aerial from the aerial itself. Problem solved.
