4G immobiliser problem

Hi all,
After a bit of help with the immobiliser fitted to my 4g.
It is the Honda dealer fit one, where you push a little oblong transponder key into a connector drilled into the dash just to the right of the steering wheel.
The control box has been fitted to the floor under the drivers seat.
The problem is that the control box is having more and more difficulty recognising the key, as when you push it in the beeps don't sound and car won't start.
Sometimes it is now taking up to 5 mins of plugging/unplugging to get it to work every time.
My questions are:
1. Has anyone one else had this problem and managed to fix it. I wonder if the contacts in the dash plug are getting worn, and I could remove it and fiddle with the contacts to get them tighter again?
2. As it was a dealer fit option and not standard wiring, is it possible to just trace all the wires, remove them, so it goes back to standard, and gets rid of the immobiliser altogether. Or will I be missing something here, and make even worse of a problem. ( ie are there likely to be hidden nasties in the wiring to prevent this sort of removal, as it is an immobiliser after all)
Any help greatly appreciated as it is a major PITA to go anywhere in the car at the moment.
