Hmmmm, pretty rare failure. I found this video , I just assumed it was the normal service connector , rather than the yellow one pictured (I would have expected maybe the tool would have a yellow plug as well?)

Was any other work done recently that might have caused trouble (eg work inside the cabin or on the steering wheel etc?). Perhaps high voltage from the alternator popped an internal over voltage protection fuse (I've only ever seen one alternator fail and give over voltage, 17 volts made smoke come out of the headunit lol). The SRS module must be working to a certain extent if it responds to diagnostic commands and gives out flash codes. I guess the logic is if the voltage goes high - there is no guarantee that some part of it isn't fried and cannot be relied upon in an accident, so best to just self-destruct / shut down.

I will look in my box of ECUs in the garage, its possible I have an SRS unit if it was easy to remove when my old 5th gen was scrapped.

Ah my alternator did run rather hot before dying. I'll check the fuses again :D

Okay, so I'm a coward and chickened out of fixing her, for now ;) Thanks for the help. I'll be right back on it in the New Year. Buzzing about in a CR-V just doesn't cut the mustard
