Fan Cooling Switch (manual)

Been thinking about the practicality of fitting a switch that will allow me to put the radiator fan on when i wanted. I do a LOT of short distance town driving during the week normally in heavy slow moving traffic and the Lude doesnt like it (neither do i) and although the fan kicks in as normal when hot i feel it would be better kicking in a bit earlier hence the need for a manual switch and one that doesnt interfere with the OEM system.
Is this possible?
Im sure ive read somewhere that someone had fitted something like this :?
(thats a lot of somes in the last sentence)

Engines run best at their operating temp which is about 80C. What is it about the hot conditions that your car doesn't like?

You could put a high value resistor in parallel with the fan switch sensor to bring down the cut-in point, and make that switched if you really want.

well i just feel it gets a bit hotter than it should when in heavy traffic - the fan kicks in ok and everything

thanks for the suggestion about the resistor - i no good with car electrics - its something ive always veered away from :?

Does your car have an air con button? In my Pulsar I crossed two wires and can now run the fans by pushing the air con switch on (with the heater on of course, the air con unit has been removed but the electrics are still there). Might it be possible to do something like this on the lude, that way if you feel the car is overheating you can turn the fans on for a short time?

my lude does that anyway ;) the aircon gas has run out sowhen you switch it on all that happens is both fans come on
