Does the switch itself have an LED light?

If it is anything like the 5th gen switches the red/black will be the power input and the red/yellow will the the output to the bulb or relay.

On the OEM switches I have seen there are extra wires to power the switch LED

Yeah that will be powered off the ignition but if you take the power from the input of that switch you are bypassing the relay (I assume this will be in the footwell fuseboard). You should be alright just to run the swich without a relay, for all the time the rear fog gets used and it is only one LED bulb?, but put an inline fuse before the rear fog switch.

The switch takes power from the ignition source and uses that power to activate the relay. The relay takes its power direct from the battery and supplies power to whatever light you are using. Like this:



A realy is used so the full load isn't going through the switch

It is best practive to install a relay, they arnt expensive.

Yes, although there will be a fuse for the switch you are tapping into, but once again it is good practice to install another fuse.

Ooft, you might need to looka the service manual for that. The other alternative is to run a new length of wire directly from the switch or relay to the rear cluster.

I think the revese lights only have one wire running down the car, and it splits out in the rear end loom to each cluster, so you'll have to run a fresh wire for the fog.
