Type S - Alternator

Hey folks,

After 16 years of ownership, the alternator just packed up on the Type S.

I called Honda yesterday afternoon, the parts guy said he would call me back but haven't heard back from them yet. As it's an import he said it didn't show on their system, which I thought was strange as I've ordered bits from them before without an issue.

Would anyone know if the the alternator on the Type S is different from the standard 5th Gens? I'm assuming not?

He did say on the phone he expects it to be around £500, typically expensive OEM.

If anyone has any recommendations/experience for a supplier to source the correct one that would be much appreciated!

Cheers!

Charlie

Prelude alternators can be tricky to sort out.
I bought an aftermarket replacement one for my 4th Gen JDM and it does work but throws up cat/battery light.

So I am getting my Honda OEM Denso alternator refurbished by UK company. Itr is £120 including pick up and delivery back to me.
I messaged the seller on ebay and sent him details and pics - They said they can do it. Others on here have used this service.

Yep you need a specific JDM alternator.
Best bet it to get it rebuilt.

I went through this on my Type S so you don't have to.

Yes, that's what I am dreading, a pain in the rear end to sort out!

Thanks very much for the info and link, I'll take a look into refurbishment.

Cheers man, fantastic info on that thread, much appreciated.

There was a part of me that wondered if the JDM one was different and required more amps, also if the ATTS added more. I was hoping not though!

I will chase Honda tomorrow for a part number and a current price and availability (if they can even source one). I'm curious what they'll say. It will be helpful to have the Honda product code.

I will look into refurbishment for definite, probably the regulator inside that has packed up?

Can you recommend any other refurbishing specialists?

Mine is the same as yours, exhaust temp and battery lights both on. Completely conked out on me the other night and had AA come help me home.

This is interesting, so I wonder if it is the ATTS system that requires abit more from the charge system? :?:

Rotating Solutions (via Ebay £120) have been really good to deal with (Simon) thus far and the courier collected the parcel on time.
Lets see how long it takes them to get it back to me and the end result. My alternator is CJP75 and is a JDM one different to UKDM/European ones.

That’s really good to know, I will make contact with him and see if he can help.

Honda UK gave me the part number and have said it is no longer available.
I’ve just had an email back from JP-carparts in Japan who were helpful to me 4 years ago when I bought ATTS seals and other gaskets from them. They have also confirmed it is discontinued and they cannot source one, new or used :-(

What a bummer. I guess this comes with the territory of persevering an old car on the road.

My alternator is a CJU76, Denso.

I have a uk alternator on my Type S.

Didn’t know there was a difference at the time. When connected, the battery light doesn’t go off.

Rus at HondR put a break in one of the wires so the battery light goes out.

When switching on the ignition, there will be no battery light, but apart from that works perfectly.

No ATTS doesn't draw any more amps, the only difference is the way the alternator communicates with the eld and ecu.
ANY JDM 5th gen alternator will work on a t
Type S. In that thread I posted just make sure the connectors match the JDM one. If the photos are working looks at the connectors labels.

Uk alternator connectors are labelled L IG F RS
JDM alternator connectors are L IG F RC

Send the alt off to universal rotating and they will rebuild it like for like and it will last forever and a day again.
