Radio Weirdness

Bit of an odd one for you guys (I think at least, I may be wrong  )

Was driving my Xsara home after it failed it's MOT. As I'm listening to the radio the traffic news comes on and deafens me - cue mad dash for the button to turn it off! This is the same button as the track info one for when I'm playing MP3's, and I pressed it wrong and didn't manage to stop the traffic news  anyway, I put radio 1 back on, and to my surprise I now had the info of the song playing, the radio show segment, radio host etc.... I'm like what the drokk?! The Xsara doesn't have a DAB receiver, and the head unit is a low end £100 Alpine jobby. What is this devil magic? Are they sending out the DAB info through FM now?

If it's been like this for ages, and I'm just way behind on the news, then apologies in advance. To be fair my daily driver has a radio from 1987 that only has a green LED that lights up if you hit a station frequency 8-)

Erm. Google RDS (Not DAB!) ;)

Edit: To be fair, it's only been around for 20 odd years

Edit 2: OK, I just answered the question below   aaarrrgh!

PS. Maybe try fiddling with the buttons on the green LED lighty up one too!

Personally, I think it's healthy to not be up to date on everything... shows you have a life ;)
