Doctronic ProECU-K retrofit?

Hi,

Any opinions on the following product?

Will this allow me to keep 4ws? Will have to replace the auto transmission with a manual?

Main reason I'm looking at this is for future tunability (turbo), and coil on plug upgrade from disi. But would prefer to keep the 4ws

You can swap the main ECU to anything you want and it won't affect the 4WS, which is a completely separate system.

Is that applicable to the 5g?

I understand the ECU is not tunable in a 5g and the popular option was to convert to obd1 without 4ws.. or piggy back to keep 4ws, something to do with the 4ws system needing a few signal inputs from the ECU? Does anyone know what those inputs are? And if they can be provided by any ECU?

On a 4ws 5th Gen just convert to OBD1 and use any ecu you like. 4WS is still separate. You'll have issues with the auto box though unless you convert to a manual and problem solved. If keeping the auto box you'll have to piggy back the ecu.

Its ATTS equipped Type S Preludes that are the other issue. They need signals off the obd2 ecu like auto box Preludes.

Don't know anyone on here that has fitted that product as yet - there has previously been some very loose discussion about a few conversions that we'd seen done overseas, but I don't think I've seen any lude on here that's had coil on plug conversion (any of the kits that might be available now) done, yet.

I'm not convinced there are any real world benefits from COP v's a traditional dizzy, you would probably be introducing complexity and potential reliability risks.

If going turbo, then I doubt the auto box would be up the job, or desirable really.

The linked ECU upgrade seems to use a K series ECU, which seems inappropriate.

Also, what tuner you can find and what they can work with should dictate the ECU system, nearly everyone can work with Hondata for example.

Oh yes, that's a particularly important point!

If Coil On Plug is really a thing you want, there are other after market ECU's that support it and would be more widely supported for tuning (Haltech for example) and there are other coil on plug conversion kits out there for H series - for example (nb: I have no direct experience of any/not recommending one over another):

Thanks for the feedback, to clarify a little...

I've been looking for a ECU swap that more modern rather than converting backwards to obd1 and without going total after market with haltech etc. in the past I did look to see if a k series would be adaptable to the h series but getting it done was way to expensive and experimental.

The k series ECU makes more sense to me as it's actually a cop ECU not a disi one, so it gives the comfort of knowing it was designed that way from honda, not some aftermarket add on, which would add more reliability concerns. Maybe would be suitable for a k swap down the line?

Can be tuned for turbo application.

With a cop you can achieve a more controlled spark timing, over a disi, better emissions, better economy and better power when tuned.
