Anyone used one of these?

Post by jjmartin349571 » Fri Jun 21, 2013 2:43 am

Hi folks,

Where I'm not using some of my cars much, I'm finding that all too often I'm having to jump start everything

Will a battery isolator do much to help the batteries hold their charge? I was thinking of one of these:

Behold!

Mainly because I don't want to hack up my car interiors to fit a big red plastic one. Not to mention re-routing the -ve battery cable!

Opinions greatly appreciated as ever :)

Cheers,
Josh

In theory yes, if there is zero current from the battery then it won't discharge.

However temperature/climate also plays a part, so come winter the battery may naturally die anyway.

Batteries are designed to be charged then discharged to maintain performance.

Use one of the drift car as it only gets used once a month and would go flat. Works a treat and starts first time now

My battery is in the boot. I just open the boot and disconnect the negative by slipping it on or off the terminal. Done!

I will be doing that too. I am just looking for a cheap and simple solution while I am waiting to install internal and external battery cut off switches.

Didn't buy it in the end, I really should have done as my unused cars have all got flat batteries now  just sold some eBay stuff so will buy one and see how it goes.
