getting rid of convertor chip-sorted

one of the connections to the convertor chip got broken when doing the gearbox swap yesterday - the wire was resoldered but the speedo is light up but not registering anything - so im thinking the convertor chip might be broken :?

I am fairly sure that if you fit a set of ukdm el dials then u can remove the convertor chip altogether - can anyone verify this.
I have one of Robs V2 Spoon chips in the ecu so im assuming i will get vtec in first as well :)

At the moment the ecu is throwing a cel light once the engine gets to temp and the car is struggling to keep the revs up when its stationary. I havent been able to get a code using the paperclip test

updaqte - CEL light was due to loose connection at VSS so fixef that and cut out convertor chip at same time and fitted UKDM EL dials - result vtec in 1st, Dials reading in MPH , Bo limiter and no CEL. :D

Ooh Bugger. Didn't realise you were getting running problems as well. :(

Could you cut the wires, remove the convertor and twist together again temporarily without it to test your hypothesis? Just take it out? I know that's not ideal but seems a cheap start even if the speedo is wrong for a bit?

I know it'll be a pain to get too down/back there.

(As you know I know feck all about this stuff. Just a thought).

no worries Jez just going back down to the workshop and going to have another look - im not too savvy when it comes to this sort of stuff either  @Merlin is going to stop by and help with diagnosis :)

the new clutch and flywheel feels spot on so that the main thing but theres always a chance of getting a few unwanted niggly things go wrong when you work on these old 4th gens

Always useful to have someone who knows what they're doing!

Good luck with it.
