Hi guys - can you tell me what type of bulb the inner headlamp (i.e main beam) takes on a 4G?

defo it's H1 for high beam which is inner and H4 for low beam which is outer one. But only if you have genuine headlights fitted. Aftermarket ones can and probably will use different bulbs

Has anyone tried 100W bulbs in their main beam headlights - purely for 'off road use', of course!

I wonder if it fries the wiring or melts the headlight?

Both I'd think, neither are designed to deal with that amount of draw or heat.

I have seen somewhere in web test of 100W bulbs.
Basically all of them were around or even less then 50W, and only one was 70W. I don't remember how many they tested but few. So don't always believe in this what manufacturer is writing on boxes. Usualy it's only for rising profits.

If it is real 100W personally I wouldn't risk using them. Headlights might be allright (I was using xenons and nothing has happened) but tiny wires can't take twice more current so IMHO they will last for quite short time and might cause fire.

If you still wanna use them then you must rewire them with apropirate wire size
