Welcome to LG!!
The H22a8 only came in the 1999+ UK 5th gen. If you are replacing your stock engine it will be an H22a. Bear in mind that there are slight differences in H22a's in 4th and 5th gens

Nothing drastic though.

Thanks.
It is an H22A8 200 bhp engine that I need as my car is a generation 5 not a 4, oops.

I have a low mileage H22a7 you could have from Accord Type-R 209bhp

If you are sure

It wont be JDM though, it will be a UK car if it has that engine from the factory.

It is definitely JDM; the satnav (not working on this part of the planet) is in Japanese characters...
Garage read me the engine number over the telephone, I will go and eyeball it myself tomorrow and take pictures.
I want to keep car original if possible.
It has 4 wheel steer and a square number plate on the back.
Thanks for feedback.

Perhaps it's had a replacement engine at some point in its life?

Welcome to the forum.
A JDM with an H22A8 would definitely be interesting.
I wondered if it was possible they had read the first digit of the engine serial number e.g. (H22A xxxxxxxx) but having looked it up, I don't think the serial numbers for H22's went beyond starting with a 4xxxxxx, so that doesn't explain it either.

If it is an H22a8 it will have to have been swapped in there as the ONLY car to have the H22a8 was the 1999+ UK 5th gen. The H22a8 is only one of 3 red top H22a's (the H22a7 in the ATR, H22a8 in the 1999+ UK 5th gen, and the red top H22a in the JDM Type-S / S-SPEC), all of them are the same high comp 11:1 with the more aggressive cams and 62mm TB.
It doesn't matter either way as the H22a8 will drop straight into a JDM 5th gen as the H22a8 is the only UK Prelude engine to have a knock sensor (all JDM H22a's have a knock sensor and not having one will throw a CEL on a JDM ECU).
But if you want it as stock and original as possible then it needs a JDM H22a.
