Engine came out of this today. scott560 your right the cam sprockets aren't in line. It certainly a new crank pulley.

Now this is the strange part. The broken cam pulley looks as if its been hit from the outside. My mechanic mate thinks someone has hit it with a hammer an that the belt has been cut hence why cam sprockets are in line still.

wurlycorner the car itself has had money spent on it mechanically but bodywise etc has been neglected. There a scrap, bash or rust on every panel. The passenger side lca is that worn its hard to believe how the arb link is still connected.

I'll get pics in the morning to show.

just been down to help newkid take the A8 engine out and fit a new belt and cam pulley so the engine could be tested - albeit just turning it over by hand :)
engine turns freely and there is compression in all cylinders but no3 looks a bit on the weak side

the only way to truly test it would be to strip it down and rebuild it but given that no 3 looks weak i guess it wouldnt be worthwhile

Hey mate do you have a near side upper ball joint? I will check the MOT cert but I think that's the part I need.
