Fuel Injector Leak??

Post by h10ndr » Fri Apr 15, 2016 6:44 pm

Hi,

Had an injector leaking fuel for a while. Unsure why its leaking from this hole in the side of the body. See post here:-

http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/632404- ... ry23939234

It was cylinder no.3.
So replaced all the seals on all injectors... Still leaking.
So moved the injector to cylinder 1. That is now leaking proving its the actual injector and not the seals.

Had to buy all 4 OEM injectors from BalladeSports for not much more than 1 injector is in the UK.

1 OEM injector UK - £258 delivered
4 x OEM injectors from USA - £275 delivered.

 what a massive ball-ache!
Result on getting 4 for the price of 1 though.
Any pics of your faulty injector?

There is a pic in the s2ki link I posted of the exact issue. Mine looks no different. Most injectors look the same, especially around the plastic harness connector. They all seem to have holes in the same place.

Anyhow, it cant be seals as they are all new and the leak followed the injector. I wonder if when I swap them out if a place like injectortune.co.uk could recondition them?

I would expect they can be reconditioned.
I don't agree with the suggestion in the other thread that they are perhaps designed to fail there if they get blocked (like a safety release valve).
1. The maximum pressure they are designed to withstand will be beyond the maximum fuel rail pressure. They withstand the normal fuel rail pressure all the time, every day - back pressure from a blocked injector would be exactly the same as when it is closed.
2. The fuel pressure regulator is designed to regulate the fuel rail pressure and fail safe by returning fuel to the tank, so over-pressure of the fuel rail should never happen.
3. Uncontrolled release of fuel in the engine bay would never be part of the design.

So basically what I'm saying is... it's probably a manufacturing defect.

I was beginning to worry (after I ordered replacements) that the original poster on s2ki seemed to fix his by refitting the seals using a bit of oil. (The workshop manual does say to do this). I don't know if this was done (probably not) with mine, but in any case the leak has followed the injector when they moved it again with new seals. The oil is just to help ease fitting of the seals without tearing or snagging them, but not actually to make them "seal".

It must be the injector. :?

If I can get the 1 reconditioned then I can sell them as a set. They are sought after for upgrading the fueling on Suzuki Hyabusa engines. They are a direct fit and use the same harness connectors !!
