Genetic manipulation

Post by Donald » Sun Mar 03, 2013 3:30 pm

Similar topic to the breed manipulation discussion I brought up around this time last year, but this is more 'facking directly with stuff' than sticking two dogs in a pen and hoping you get the right puppies.

I'm hoping to get your guyses views on this, I have another couple of essays to write on this stuff soon.

Discuss! Can be anything you like. Before you outright slate it/support it on the whole though, do please have something to back your argument(s).

messing with this always causes problems down the line people have a tendency to think in the here and now and forget about what could happen

i think if its monitored properly it could be a good thing but we need to know ALL the repercussions first.

thats the problem you cant possibly know all the repercussions it would be cool to know how some of the unused genes in our code would affect us. ie maybe gills from when our ancesters were amphibious  most of the norfolk lot are ahead of the game anyway with webbed fingers and toes

Unless one starts chopping & changing lumps of pea pod or drosophila DNA, one is unlikely to figure out quite how the switching system functions. It's (ebenda) more complex that it was assumed. So start chopping!

So yes, and let's hope the laws of unintended consequences aren't too drastic.

ibidim > ebenda.

Apart from that I have no idea what you're on about. What is this switching system?

bris, merc, you don't need to know anything to have an opinion. For instance, you can't buy genetically modified livestock, but you can buy meat raised on genetically modified crop. I'm sure you can have an opinion on that?

they have made major mistakes with genetically changed crops where they have affected either the animals that in the food chain or have invaded where they are not wanted.
That said some of these crops are modified to increase yield and to survive where others wont so will help third world countries, or help with fuels as in rapeseed. I still dont agree with messing about with it the arguement about third world hunger in my opinion is flawed because we as a race should be taking responsibility, an animal wont breed/produce young if times are hard and food is scarce but we ignore that and do it anyway and expect the rest of the world to come to the rescue.
I was watching adverts hearing plea's for money for africa when i was a child the same plea's you hear today why after all the money are they still in the same jobby.
I have been to nearly every hotspot in the world at one time or another and the problems are caused by greed and genetic manipulation wont help with that.
