I think we already are more than just a forum, because of the amount of meets that actually go on?
But you're dead right, if we could go big like that, it would be great.

(And the way ludes rust, we might need to start making bodyshells soon! )
we would never be As Big as them but we have great people on here (notice I didn't say members  ) we have great knowledge we are getting organised with specialised stuff ie cebuls contacts with arches and the like a lot of those clubs are really elitist and snobby we are a good community we could be an amazing club.
Imagine we had a club premises wih lifts and a decent workshop where weekend events could take place and jobs and builds could be completed.
There are people on here already driving to and helping others out it isn't such a big leap to organise and tip up somewhere on mass to complete jobs vw guys do it

that's because its just being sorted by one of the guys just because he has seen them and thought it would be a good idea not because we are organised if we found a decent company lined up with a range of stuff and money in the club kitty they could be bought and kept in stock the profit going back into the club for either more stock or a new range of stuff

I agree with you merc - it all centres around having premises to work from be it someones lockup to bigger industrial units with engine hoists and ramps etc Once you have a place to work from it should all fall into place in theory given that there are enough like minded folk nearby.
A few of us here have got together and chipped in for a small unit on a 6 month lease - after 4 months its clear we need a bigger place :) Chipping in for something like that makes sense Theres a pool of knowledge there and its being put to good use which is great ideally it would be good to expand that out to encompass a facility where all lude owners be it 3rd. 4th or 5th Gen could work together on projects and their own cars if they wanted. But youve got to start small. :) but the benefits are clear to see...now whos going to get the ball rolling ;)

what we could do is start with the donation thing not make it compulsory but to advise each new member that they can contribute/give back to the community.
I don't want to go down the lude behaviour route that way always goes wrong but its not mentioned to new users maybe when the confirmation mail goes out it could be mentioned.
Then buying and selling merchandise at a small profit will start swelling the coffers.
Also businesses that advertise here for free could make a yearly donation to the coffers the group buys could be brought inhouse so to speak so the club can profit for the good of the community.
Also I am just throwing it out there but a donation to the club from sellers and maybe a limit on items/total value at any one time for newbs to ensure safety.
Also what about an auction thread like parts bay for certain stuff.
The upshot of this will mean we will start to get a handle on the prices of our ludes and our parts also custom parts that we have had made in the past or are in talks about will become more available at better prices.
you may think I have my head in the clouds or just talking jobby but I have sat here for years wondering where this is going the majority of people on this and puk and lude behaviour have been around and stay around we are not a bunch of fly by nights but we don't seem to have any ambition.
I thought when puk started to go under and this came along that at last we were out from under the yoke and that the club would start to fly I am still waiting albeit flapping my wings more

its a difficult one raising funds for the forum/club
it just down to individuals to do the right thing and donate :)
and trading in the form of a club is even more difficult but we should at least have some club merchandise available
by now
shouldnt we :?
at least that would be a starting point ;)

I know but the usual way of group buys is long and laborious and sometimes blows back on the person organising if the club had a pot of money they could buy stuff sell at a small profit any excess stays in a club shop so to speak think how people like tegiwa started with small bits like lug nuts and gearknobs the club could sell on the site and on ebay.
There are people on the site with contacts but maybe not the time? or time and no contacts there are people on here with organisational skills engineering skills computer skills
