ATTENTION track bummers

Post by 4thgenphil » Mon Oct 28, 2013 9:18 pm

all you bummer that partake in track days here's a picture of an incident i had the pleasure of being part of at SPA

what happened you ask? well stav was driving, i was passengering. This was his third lap so no cold tyre, we came out of a corner, he was flat on the throttle with not alot of lock on and as we were pretty much out of the corner the back end just stepped out, totally inexplicable!
We were going over 90 when the car was diverted towards the wall and didnt loss a great deal of speed before we hit the wall on the opposite side of the track. Fair play to stav, he kept his foot in in the hope the LSD would drag the car out of the slide, alas it didnt though.
We hit the wall at a 45 degree angle on my side and then slide sideways for a few hundred meters, god knows how we didnt flip :shock:
we came to a stop, stav was pretty shacken up, i was surprisingly ok but i did have a sec or two to pull my feet back and tuck my arms and chin into my chest. after stav finally answered he was ok i went to town with the fire extinguisher :lol: probably didnt need to but how often are you going to get the chance :P

we were both pretty sore after but ultimately walked away relatively unscathed, unlike the car.

as you can see the car is bolloxed! it did have a 1.6 16v with intake and exhaust, with the 1.3 gearbox attatched, this had a a quaife diff aswell :twisted:

the car had a creased floor pan and roof after the crash and the pass door wouldnt close (although did ope with relative ease IIRC :? ) and the rest of the damage you can see!

lessons i learnt;

GET A CAGE NOW!
GET DECENT 3" HARNESSES
GET DECENT SEATS
GET A FIRE EXTINGUISHER
Finally, make sure those big fat harnesses are done up as tightly as you can cope with, then tighten them some more! i had very little bruising as that's what i did, stav had his a little looser and had some serious bruises where the harnesses were!

seriously dudes, this could have been so much worse with out the cage, harnesses and seats!

jesus christ...

This is why im getting bucket seats and harness's BEFORE i start track days. Possibly investing in a roll cage as well after seeing this :?

Where can you get a cage done a few place I've looked up don't do them for the prelude they say they are custom cages but you have to choose your car from the list
