Handbrake

Post by K30DPC » Sun Jan 05, 2014 6:40 am

Guys I had a dream 2nite. It was so cool so I woke up and was thinking how to make it real. My handbrake was working and it was locking wheels whenever I wanted. So this is my idea. Is this gonna work?

First of all we have to convert it to hydraulic handbrake. It's not legal so...
As far as I know I will have to run two pipes to new two cylinders handbrake lever and then stright to calipers. Am I correct? To archive this I need to route pipes from ABS unit into the cabin. This can be done somewhere behind radio unit. Then modify handbrake lever by adding two pistons. This have to be done without damaging existing setup so I can leave working handbrake lines for MOT tester   And then back the same way to engine bay with return pipes connected to OEM rear calipers pipes. With a bit of luck this can be well hidden so nobody will see this setup.

Another thing are rear calipers. I'm not sure how they will work when we apply handbrake now. In theory it should be fine as it is possible to press brake while handbrake is applied in OEM setup. But still we can remove some not needed parts and save weight :D and make rear caliper similiar to front one where piston is only pressed in (not screwed in).

What do you think about it?

You're over thinking it, it's easy enough. If you want to retain the cable operation for legality, use these:

This option may be good but generating extra spendings and also handbrake lever doesn't look OEM any longer. Also OEM lines can't be atached to this. I might be wrong but from pics it looks like.

I don't know merc. I'm just asking

Doe's anybody here running hydraulic handbrake?

This guy is absolutely crazy but I like to watch his well directored movies. You can easilly see he was training this stunts as there is quite a lot of marks on this track and most maches his tricks. Anyway we can't say he isn't good drifter

Yeah it's obviously been done a few times to perfection but I was just using it as a demo of what gymkhana is without a horse
