Fuel is too costly £1.38 a litre last time I filled up. When I started driving it was about 63p per litre! They know people will pay up to a certain price, they will up it until they get there. How much will that be though? £1.50? £1.65? At what price will you stop buying petrol and take the bus/train to work?

As for the 5% drop in the upper rate of income tax, if they will avoid paying 50% through loop holes etc then what makes them think they will pay 45%? Because they have found there morals for 5% more? Don't think so! Close the loop holes and make them pay 50%!

upping the threshold to 9K is good but gives you £200 a year. Work that out in your yearly pay and see what % tax rebate you will be getting. Probably no more that 1% but if you earn £150K you get 5%? Yes it is a budget for low/middle income families. It just that poor for them is £150K. Anything less your worse than poor and don't count.

£1.51 per litre here (premium), about £1.46 - £1.48 (standard).

It's got so expensive I'm car-sharing to work starting next week. Usually £50 petrol a week (minimum) now thanks to car sharings that's down to £15. Saving £140 a month this way.

I know far too many people from my secondary school, got pregnant, and now live off the state, I see them on the high street laden with booze and fags :x

More fool me for going out and working

I think benefits should be paid in the form of a state credit, only redeemable on necessities like food, shelter, utilities. Will never happen as it'd be unpopular politics, but would stop benefits being used on things that aren't necessities.

Also, as a man who deals with NHS finance, I can tell you that revenue from fags is a dip in the water compared to what we require in funding. Only about a fifth of the population smoke anymore, and it's decreasing yearly.

Just my two pence

On a lighter note, the BBC tax calculator says me and my girlfriend are £300 better off in FY 2012-13 :) try it out on the news main page.

Cheers,
Josh

This is actually quite a good idea, similar to food stamps in the U.S.

Same here. I've only been driving 6 years but I'm sure I can remember it being 79p/L. Costs me around 80 quid to fill up now.
