Black box under inlet HELP..

Post by JEBB4 » Thu Apr 03, 2014 7:51 am

Firstly hello to all the fellow lude owners! Im relatively new to lude ownership and to the forum having only bought mine last month ago, but ive owned a fair few civics and been obsessed with hondas for a few years now...

I will post a thread with some pictures off couple of the civics ive built and my current JDM BB4 lude project when I have time..

Now to the issue.. with my box... :)
Im rebuilding my JDM H22A and ive come across a black box with 2 vacuum pipes going to it, firstly Im woundering what it actually does, secondly im woundering can it be removed and the pipes just linked in the correct way without the box as the connections have snapped off :/...
I have done a search around the forum and can't find much about it.

Any help greatly appreciated!!

sounds like your talking about the fuel evap canister - u can probably remove it but i would keep it there.
others may be able to advise you better ;)

That black box near the battery? It's for the dual butterfly intakes/ resonator I think. Can be removed and plugged against vac leaks.

It is your IAB vacuum tank. I would leave it in. I am assuming its purpose is to build enough vacuum to move the IAB actuator properly. IAB's (Intake Air Bypass) are the butterfly valves in the lower part of the intake manifold that open and close to try and give the maximum amount of torque at lower revs.

The EVAP canister is on the left hand side of the engine bay and the resonator vacuum tank is behind the battery.

No I would leave it. If you remove it the IAB actuator may not fully open the IAB valves which will hurt performance.

Your damn right!..
so my next question is does anyone have a intact ITB vacuum tank lying around they might want to part with... or should I put a thread in the wanted section??

I should have one on a spare/old engine in my back garden but I will have to check.
