Surprised to hear that, although I have never read anything about car helmet's, only a few articles about motorbike helmet developing and crash testing.
In my mind most car helmet's would have to protect from shattered glass, small flying objects and banging against the car chassis as it is very rare for driver's to be thrown out of the seat. Karts and open-track cars would obviously be an exception though. A biker on the other hand can expect to hit solid objects at speed with his safety helmet, think kerbs, trees, vehicles, the list is endless. In terms of racing there will certainly be plenty of tarmac scraping though.
On that note I have a spare crash helmet I could bring along if needed as well.

I have £50 motorcycle helmet from lidl
I call it the death helmet
its german made, & approved etc.. but figured it would be ok for inside a car

I used a £40 helmet for 3 years and lost count of the amount of track days I did with that helmet. There is nothing wrong with using a cheaper motorbike helmet. They are perfectly fine for track days.
That is the helmet I have. The V2 Elite, a very good helmet for the price but probably too expensive for a casual track day'er.Ash.Z wrote:Try here http://www.v2sport.com
Brilliant service, good reviews, and Snell compatible. I use an open face as visibility is not great in the lude with a full face.
