Backbox replacement

Post by BigTom » Fri Jun 20, 2014 4:38 pm

Hi all,

So I was checking the rusty backbox on my exhaust today and managed to push my thumb straight through it was that bad.

A quick look suggests the mid pipes aren't too bad and the centre box seems to have been replaced by a previous owner so I'd just like to replace the box and tail pipes I think.

Is this as simple as unbolting the old one and sticking in the replacement or is it more involved? I'm just an ape with a Halfords socket set.

Cheers, Tom

An original replacement will bolt straight on, an aftermarket one may need to be sleeved and clamped/welded.

Hope this helps

Nice one, that sounds promising. I'd rather stock to oem anyway so will start keeping an eye out for a replacement.

Yes please Bludge, if you can send me a couple of photos and an idea on price (would need posting to Cornwall) that would be great.

My bad, turns out its an aftermarket box. haiki? never heard of them. looks like it will polish up well though. but its sleeved and looks as though its been welded so might need to cut it off if you want it.

Trying to upload a pic but photobucket is being a kebab!

Ah, I think I'll leave it then - after an easy fix. Thanks though.

No worries, if you have trouble finding one you could always have the rest of the pipe its attached to and just bolt it on somewhere down the line.
