I'll put up some pictures if it looks good!
The trick is going to be trying to keep it clean for Beaulieu next weekend including driving down there. I would do it nearer the date but I've only got use of the polisher and a friend's drive tomorrow!
Well this afternoon I washed the car and then clay mitted it. The difference the clay mitt made was unbelievable. It didn't remove some of the blemishes I had hoped it would but in general the paint was visibly cleaner and very very shiny. It completely got rid of the sort of deadness the paint had before and you could really see the depth in it. I was already very chuffed buy this point as it's the best the car has looked in years.
I then tried the Meguiars Ultimate Polish and could not get on with it at all. Tried with the DA polisher and by hand and it seemed to leave a residue which was really hard to remove. (I had the car under a gazebo to keep it out of the sun and had actually sprayed cold water over the car before I washed it to make sure it was as cool as possible so temperature shouldn't have been the issue). Fortunately my friend had some Autoglym Super Resin Polish and it worked like an absolute treat both by hand and with the polisher. Very easy to use, buffed off easily.
Unfortunately I had started much later than I intended so by the time I had finished doing the polishing it was dark! So I will have to wax it tomorrow which is really not ideal at all. What I dread is the car getting any sort of dust on it and dragging that round with the wax.
On the plus side it is very shiny indeed, although as always every ding, scratch and stone chip (and there are a few) can now be seen from space. I will have to wait until I can see the car in daylight but the early signs are the really bad swirling I had has been much improved judging by the reflections of street lamps etc which usually show up the swirls clearly.
I will put some pictures up tomorrow when it's light enough to take any!
I've had the same issue with the new meguairs polish.
It's seems very hard to buff off.
Their older stuff in the red bottle on the '3' stage that norks posted earlier was alot easier to buff out than the new ultimate polish.
