Lude bogging down after the dizzy change

Post by Free Ranj Egg » Tue Jan 29, 2019 12:06 pm

How are we doing gents.. Sorry its been a while. I have been busy planning a wedding.

Thread resurrection...

So the car has had a change of dizzy and I went to Matt at Red R who re set the timing and the car was fine for a few months.

The car went back to him to have all the seals changed and as a result the timing was re set once again.

The hesitation bogging down, mis firing problem is now back.

Would it be best to change the dizzy again and see if that helps.

Any advice is appreciated.

Regards

Ranj

can you borrow a dizzy from someone else in the area to verify if its a dizzy issue again? would only take 5/10 mins to swap over and test :)

Lude bogging down after the dizzy change

Does it only misfire at higher revs? hot or cold? under load or at part throttle?

Whats the condition of the rotor cap and arm visually (just a couple of screws to check, cant mess up the timing by taking a peek)

Id assume the dizzy is ok, perhaps do a compression check, then if all good whack in a new coil (about 20 quid off ebay), plugs, cap and arm and leads perhaps.

I've probably got second hand (but known good) parts of most of the above if you want them, can box em up and ship em over?

Generally the ignition components on a car are never changed over its lifetime, but they wear out just like anything else...

It doesn't need a specialist to do it. I would phone round local garages and see if they have a timing gun. Then tell them how to set the timing as set out a few posts above.

Gents,

I got the dizzy changed yesterday and the engine management light is off and the car engages vtec fine. However when I picked the car up and took it for a drive, it was very hesitant and wouldn't shift like it normally does.

I waited for it to warm up before giving it the beans and it seems to be bogging down. I have had a look online and apparently the dizzy change can knock out the timing by a tooth? Is this the case?

Other things that have recently been changed on the car is the spark plugs, the fuel filter has been replaced, the leads are probably about 60k mileage old.

The car seemed to be fine before the dizzy was changed? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Ranj, was this a new non genuine Honda dizzy? If so, I had the same issue on a 4th Gen. Bought it brand new and the car was so hesitant! At the time i was desperate to get the car working so just purchased a it. A week later, I manage to find a 2nd hand work from a local scrapyaed and what do you know, the power was restored!

Definetly check the new dizzy or put the old one back in first. I've never bought one of those ever again.

Lude bogging down after the dizzy change

The car misfires under part throttle in 2nd and 3rd gear. In 5th at 30mph the steering judders and torque steers. The car has had a 2nd hand dizzy and im sure matt at red r would have checked the timing. It could be in need of a new coil. Once the car had the dizzy replaced and Matt reset the timimg it ran better but not upto full capacity. He has checked the HT leads and re gapped the plugs. I think it may be a coil or something. Any help is appreciated gents.

where do you live? we can ask around local 5g lude owners to see if they are willing to pop over and swap their dizzy onto yours as a quick test maybe?
