Help needed 5G rear calipers

Post by crazy_ed » Mon Apr 01, 2019 7:27 pm

Help needed

i have a 5th Gen and the rear left (uk) NSR Caliper is sticking, i need to either rebuild or replace the caliper.
i called up Honda and they cannot offer a rebuild kit.
They can do pastern calipers a pair for £250.
or genuine Honda calipers for £250.

i want the Genuine Honda calipers but i was wondering if i have any other options.

if i can get rebuild kits.
or any cheaper options?

Cheers for Any help.

Help needed 5G rear calipers

I’ve seen rebuild kits on eBay for less than £20, or you could find someone on here breaking a lude or selling parts. I’ve just got some off of here last week, my rear caliper piston seal has had it and doing the same.

Ive got a rebuild kit for 2.2 rears

euro car parts have complete calipers for less than 80quid a side once you've exchanged the core (which is a very easy process, just take em in with you to save time).

Factor in your time and effort, you'll realise rebuilding isn't worth the effort. If you on a tight budget though / have lots of time, sling me a tenner and ill pop the rebuild kit in the post tomorrow.

Cheers,

Scott

its not a tight budget.
i just want to put the best parts on the car.
i dont want to stick a pattern part on if its not as good quality as the original Honda part.

Maybe a clean 2nd hand part is a better option for now?

I actually found the seals from Big Red were better than the originals, such as the bellows on the pistons, they were much thicker.

I wouldn't sweat it too much about original vs pattern - especially for a rear caliper.

On older cars, I suspect refurbished parts via eurocarparts are refurbished originals, rather than copy parts like you might find for newer cars. You can always reserve then go and check before you buy. Original ones are NISSIN brand. If it says NISSIN on the cast, then its original. I dont see any benefit in original pistons/seals compared to any rebuild kit. Think i paid about 25 for the rebuild kit (unused, yours for a tenner).

https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Hond ... 0b6&000048

up to 106quid now (and that includes the surcharge refund).

I wanged them on my car when the rears didn't feel right - and they've held up after 1 or 2 track days without issue so i have no reason not to trust them.

Like I said, if you want the rebuild kit PM me and i'll send them out. Or save yourself a lot of hassle and spend a bit more on the part listed. Slap em on in 20 minutes rather than faffing with a rebuild.
