The threaded end of the ball joint has a rubber boot, it's between the boot and the arm. The circlip sits flush with the bottom of the arm so if there is grime/grease in the way it might be hard to spot. Me and 3rdgensteve replaced all the ballpoints on my track Lude with a hammer and a pair of circlip pliers.

I assure you it's there. If you look at the pics of new ones on eBay they are included in the pic.

Mine was practically gone. Was more rust than clip! Could be the same for you - nothing a big hammer couldn't sort.

Mm...like Ste says, it didn't look clear when we had a look at Kat's. Never had to replace mine, so never actually looked how to do it. I've seen the circlip in the pics of replacements and assumed the top brass looking cap was a cover that you flick off and the circlip would just hold it in place of the arm. The fact it's on the other side does that not mean that the circlip is holding it from coming away from the arm? Doesn't make sense in my head, but I've clearly got it completely wrong? :?

Lots on Ebay is it upper or lower? Not that expensive anyway 20ish a side IIRC.

But when it gets bad,
I take something for it.

My 4G is still in bits so the pics were easy to take. The little black circles are the "eyelets" of the circlip.

If the circlip isnt there, there is nothing to stop the balljoint from being pushed through the hole in the upper arm.
