Mine don't and it's super annoying because I never know if I locked the car or not

They do not as standard. An alarm added afterwards (Honda or otherwise) is what causes it.

What kind of remote fob did you have? The added alarm system seems to come with a different fob as far as i know (well the same is true for other hondas of that era).

This is the standard non-alarm fob which all 5th gens should come with:

Mine don't, you can just hear the locks activate.

I've got the one pictured below with my 1999 BB9. Can't remember if the boot release button works and when I took it apart to change the battery there wasn't actually anything under the 'PANIC' button so not sure if it's had a replacement cover at some point

I just got a square one with a 1 button in middle which sets alarm an unlocks doors honda fitted

They all should come with a panic button. It should light up when you hit vtec.
