  i'm guessing you either know Paul or Kieren? not even i've seen that pic! loving seeing it on the rollers 8)

literally cut & pasted from TPW:
Car was smelling oily when it came in but put that down to being a new build but when I checked oil was on the minimum so added 1L
Its also very slow to crank but whether its die to battery and length of cables although I’ve put a jump pack on and it’s still slow.
I’ve done a couple of low cam full throttle pulls and power was dropping then it cut out early
Map that was in it when it came in was running really lean part throttle but I wiped that and started from scratch where fuelling was immediately better. Only managed about 30 mins part throttle then 3 full throttle pulls
I’ve done a compression test and we have the following:

1 – 180psi
2 – 70psi
3 – 0
4 – 50psi

Obviously we have an issue with compression and rings and might be why its slow or tight to crank thinking about it
Other things I’ve noticed is it’s got old wrong grade plugs for higher comp motors as I would be using 7s not the original 6’s
Also lot of household choc-block connectors on lot of the wiring that need to be sorted out really

so ah well, looking like i need to;
- rebuild with brand new high compression pistons like 11:6:1 i think, sack off the frankenstein build - recommendations welcome
- new block as it sounds like the bores were not as good as i thought OR the replacement second hand pistons were not up to the job
- considering sleeving (?) the new block, although i thought this was only ideal for a turbo build - recommendations here welcome
- put in correct plugs
- improve wiring loom, completely my lazy fault

I ran a compression test right before she went and it was 180 over all 4x bores

Aw man, that's a shame. :(

How much would a replacement block set you back, and how would you know it would be good to go?

Personally I would sleeve the block for reliability and you could then use any pistons you feel like, get the perfect piston to wall clearance and be sure the bores are uniform all the way down. Its pricey though, you'll be looking at a minimum of £2k for sleeves fitted and pistons bought to suit.
