Yeah that's what I'm agreeing with, but I think a lot of the crazies are thinking an event like this will happen quite soon, as in just a few weeks before 21/12.

inevitable it most likely is, however it is also a human instinct to horde. prob simply because it has worked in the past, which is why it is a surviving instinct

who says it wont happen real soon, especially when people start to wake up to this so called recesion, just admit it, it isnt ever gona be like it was just 4 years ago. there simply isnt enough to go around. as inflation takes over money will be useless. it has already started in some economys

the army will be the biggest active threat to all civilian populations. them and private security firms etc. these will become the 'land pirates' and we will all be in fear of their power.

@littlefeller: hmm, im not sure you would last the initial shock phase to be honest mate. you're woefully under informed and a little unhinged which will lead to immediate conflict and injury in a SHTF situation. Sorry and all that but as much as i like you i think you would get hacked down within the first three weeks with your current outlook.
you have a good and healthy distrust of the pathetic system we live in but you could try a little realism and realise that the guy running around with the sword trying to steal off people will get put down first. or if you are part of a 'gang' then you will be hungry and constantly under threat of attack from within. good luck.

you have to consider things like trade goods when money is shot. it will not all be rape and murder. you will need items of intrisic worth to trade for supplies when the opportunity arrises. This is what bullion (gold and silver bars) and knives are for. one will retain worth in the cultural mind while the other is obviously useful.

dont forget that silver is a sanitiser as well. with my bars of silver and a small electrolosis rig i can sanitise millions of surgery tools etc. This is the wiggle room you need or you will become food for the giant packs of roving dog's that would quickly gather. they would be one of the higher risk problems we would all have to deal with.

I guess my main outlook, since the recent collapse and the obvious governmental stupidity, is that my cash is probably better off in preparing for a meltdown than a pension. this is a belief i have had for a long long time but the last 6 years have crystalised these feelings.

there was on of the guys on the programme who had a very good point. His food stores had increased in value 400% while his peers had lost $27,000 in a week with the 401 scandle on the usa stockmarkets. who is the crazy nut job there?

i am ex military (though this was a long time ago now) so im more prepped than most, but not in the way these others are doing it, prepped as in myself. i like chaos. guns are not a good idea, others can hear them

what are you all planning for your waste, a big pile of turds will give you away too, this is why cats cover theres up. as for trading with others err no.
