I'm sure it's still round and perfectly formed though.

Thanks @honda-hardy you are gent, but I'm all sorted now, my old ring came off no problems.

I had not even looked at reusing the existing as an option until I'd taken it off, and was expecting it to be rusty and brown (fnar) but unlike the fronts, they are a different design and made of a material that does not corrode.

Just before tapping into place.....
