Hey guys I've taken the vtec soloined off and it was clogged up but it also had shards of metal in there would I be right in saying that's it for the engiene? I'm guessing if it's in there it's going to be in the pick up aswell ?

That does not sound good. The only time that I have found metal in the VTEC solenoid in one of my engines, it spun a bearing and got rod-knock not long after.

i think its normal to find a very tiny bit of debris or grit in there (hence the screen to catch it), but bigger chunks means engine is starting to chew itself apart , i wouldn't waste any more time on it.
If the car is rusting out at the arches, save your time and hassle, get a different prelude before they are too hard to get hold of. Plenty of salvageable preludes for sale pop up from time to time...

The arches do need doing but we are going to cut them out and re do them how much roughly should I be paying for a new engiene ? I have looked on ebay but they really vary on price and where I've basically been screwed over with the car dont really want to be screwed over with a engeine aswell

Just want to point out quickly it is just the arches that are rusty the rest of the car is in pretty good condition for its age

The problem is the engines are not in great supply. Ive seen them on ebay for quite a high premium. What anyone would pay is up to them, but id hazard a guess it is not that much more expensive to buy the engine with the car already attached.
That way the engine can be tested and delivered more easily than a bare engine by itself, and comes with the benefit of an entire car of parts alongside it...
I think the 2.2 autos are the same bottom end (185bhp versions) so that helps broaden the search. I saw a silver motegi kitted 2.2 auto for £900 with a dodgy auto gearbox. Its not going to go at that price so a solid cash offer and no hassle for the seller is likely to result in a reasonable donor vehicle. Im half tempted myself to get the motegi kit if its the same silver as mine. Then id have a car and engine to sell on...

@Shafy8807 it might be worth having a chat with Performance Autoworks to see if they have any advice, or they might even be able to source a known good H22 lump for you.

Ahh metal swarf in the engine sounds like game over
I’d find a another engine but keep the old motor and strip it to find out what happened. Might have salvageable spare parts
